Good News About Maetreum of Cybele Legal Case
The Maetreum of Cybele has received a favorable decision from the Greene County Supreme Court in their 5-year legal battle with the town of Catskill, NY. A property tax exemption denial based on accusations that the religious group doesn't meet the legal definition for a tax-exempt status is one of the issues in this case. The 2011 tax exemption decision is expected soon. The Maetreum says:
if we are once again denied we will proceed directly to Federal Court and file the action with the State AG’s office which should trigger a full scale investigation into the Town of Catskill. Thanks to Jason Pitzl-Waters this info (and more!) in his post on The Wild Hunt yesterday.
